Look in the mirror and determine which attribute looks more like your face shape
- Oval – Classic oval face shapes are thin on the inside and rounded
- Heart – You’ll notice you have a heart shaped face if you have a longer jawline and a forehead that is wider than the rest of your face
- Square – You have a square face shape if your forehead is the same size as your jawline
- Round – A Round Face has softer angles than a square face shape with the sides of your face curving slightly outward.
How to Apply Blush for Your Face Shape
Once you have determined your face shape, you can use specific techniques to apply blush to accentuate your features. The key in blush application is knowing how to apply the blush in relation to your cheekbones. So before you begin to apply your blush – SMILE!
Feel your face with your fingers and located your cheekbones. Then keep smiling as you apply your blush.

How to Apply Blush on a Square Face Shape
The goal of applying blush to a square face shape is to soften the jawline. In order to soften the jawline, you are going to want to concentrate most of the color on your cheekbones and then lightly pull the color up to blend it.
How to Apply Blush on an Oval Face Shape
When you apply blush on a classic oval face shape, you will want to give the appearance of a wider dimension. As a result, you will start close to the middle of the cheek and then pull the blush out. Unlike when you apply blush to a square face shape, you will want to keep a majority of the color concentrated toward the outside.
How to Apply Blush to A Heart Shaped Face
Applying blush to a heart shaped face is really just about accentuating the beautiful jawline of the heart shaped face. The goal is to bring the cheekbone even higher.
In order to achieve this, start applying blush lightly along the temple of the eye to create a “C”. Then blend the blush down the cheekbone. You really want to accentuate the color on the cheek and fade it into the temple.
How to Apply Blush to A Round Face
It’s super easy to apply blush to a round face! When you find your cheekbones, you want to apply the blush just slightly under them! You’ll apply the blush just right under the apples of your cheek and blend it back into your hairline to give your face a more sculpted look.

The second component of blush application is just as important as the technique you use to apply your blush. If you choose the wrong type of blush for your skin type, you will end up with a product that does stay on as long or that looks cakey or streaky.
So, it’s always best to know what type of products will best compliment your skin type.
