Avon Leadership Program – Getting Started
Table of Contents
If you’re first getting into a direct selling business, leadership models might seem confusing to you. But, I think, the hardest part is understanding what basic terms actually mean. So let’s start by breaking Avon Leadership Program titles down.
First Generation (1G) – any memory of your team that you have personally recruited. On your tree, these people will be the ones directly under you.
Second Generation (2G) , Third generation (3G) and beyond – these are people who have been recruited by members of your first generation (people recruited by you)
Downline – Anyone who you have recruited or anyone recruited by a member of your first generation
Upline – Your sponsor or mentor or the person who recruited you.
Team – Your downline – People who have been recruited by you. However you are also a part of a team that includes everyone recruited by you and your downline AND your upline.
Congratulations – You’re a Promoter!
When you recruit one person onto your Avon team, and that one person places any size order, you have officially started your Avon leadership program journey! When you become an Avon Promoter, you begin to earn off your of downline’s total sales. As a promoter, you will receive 3% of your downline’s sales.
How to Get your Recruits to Place an Order
In order to get your recruits to place that order, you should work closely with them and your own mentor to develop a strategy. That strategy should definitely include teaching them how to make money with Avon by using the Avon Pathway to Premier Program.
But it’s super important that your new recruit knows what’s in it FOR THEM. Did you know? Recruits who place $60 first order receive freebies from Avon PLUS a $10 credit to use toward their next order?
Avon Leadership Program – Becoming a Bronze Ambassador
So you’ve recruited your first couple of people into your Avon business and you’re ready to truly take your business to the next level start earning with the Avon Leadership Program! The way I see it, two ways to earn is always bette than one!
In order to become a Bronze Ambassador in the Avon Leadership Program, you will need three first generation orders, personal sales of $200 and total team sales (the sales of you and your downline) of $1000. When you achieve that, you will receive the amazing leadership bundle pictured above! PLUS – you’ll earn 6% off of your downline’s sales.
But how do you achieve $1000 in team sales? Let’s break it down.
Avon Leadership – How to Get $1000 in team sales
When you first start recruiting to enter the Avon Leadership Program, that number can seem overwhelming. But let’s break down where you will be if you recruit three people and they all place a $200 order in the same campaign.
Why are we concentrating on a $200 order? Because with the Avon Pathway to Premier Program, a $200 order is the best benefit for the new representative. Not only will they receive the free gifts mentioned above, but they will also receive a $20 cash back bonus in addition to their regular earnings.
$200 x 3 = $600 + $200 = $800
This figure includes a $200 order for three personal recruits and your personal $200 order.
You can see that becoming a Bronze Ambassador could be done with three people in your downline if you have a strong seller (over $200 order) on your team. But you should use your judgement and know the intentions of the people who are joining.
It is advantageous to aim to add at least one new team member every single campaign in the Avon Leadership Program. Two new team members is better – that’s one person a week. As you add new team members and those team members shoot for their kickstart goals, your team sales will naturally grow or at least maintain (if you have a personal shopper on your team).
Where to Find Avon Recruits
So we talked about what you need to become a Bronze Ambassador and earn the mentor bonus bundle included in the Avon Leadership Program. You’ll notice a constant theme – you need recruits!! That’s easy to say – but where do you find people who are interested in joining your Avon team? And what in the world do you say to them?
I love the rule of connecting with FIVE people every day. When I say connecting, I don’t mean accosting random people in the grocery store or parking lot and shoving “Do you want to join my team?” down their throat. That isn’t the best way to get started in the Avon Leadership Program.
I encourage making connections – and making new friends. This will naturally increase your contacts and your potential customers and recruits. As you’re connecting, listen closely for themes and problems in their life that Avon could solve.
This can be done in person, just by getting out in your community. You can make new friends at kids sporting events, PTA, community organizations, Chamber of Commerce. I bet you don’t even realize how many people you actually come in contact with every day.
I personally like to reach out and connect with five people per day on social media. I’m on there anyway (be honest, you are too!), so why not use it as a tool to expand my reach.
Here’s my rule: I find five friends that I haven’t spoken with in a while and I go to their page and look for a recent post. I will either LIKE the post or COMMENT on the post. Sometimes, if it’s genuine, I leave a COMPLIMENT or I send a MESSAGE striking up a conversation and trying to reconnect. I do not send a copy and paste message about “Do you want to join my team?” My goal is to expand my network and continue to make connections with more and more people. This opens up the potential of more people to to talk to about your Avon business when the time is right.
Have you ever noticed that you only see a select number of friends on your Facebook page? Did you know that when you leave a like, comment or PM for one of your friends, you will begin to see their posts in your Newsfeed – and they will start to see yours!!
Avon Leadership Recruiting Tips – What to Say
So you’ve made some new connections and when the time is right, you have opened the door to your Avon business. Now what? What do you say that will encourage someone to join Avon? Below is a list of things I NEVER say.
You’ll notice above that I rarely, if ever say “Do you want to SELL Avon?” Because the answer is always NO.
The word “sell” sounds scary. And people don’t want to be “that person.”
Let’s face it, I don’t either.
I just told a friend yesterday – “I don’t sell either. I gently suggest.”
HaHa.
Truth – people LOVE to buy but NOBODY wants to be sold. So – Nobody wants to be a “Salesperson”.
I like to talk about my Avon Membership Discount and telling family and friends about products I love.
The Single Best Avon Recruiting Strategy I’ve Found
When I started contacting my first leads, I made a ton of mistakes. I still make a ton of mistakes and I’m constantly learning. But here’s an example of one of the first messages I sent to a prospect.
Ok, I won’t share it here. Too many words. Short version – it was TOO LONG!!! I sent the answer to EVERY Avon question EVER asked in the HISTORY of Avon in ONE opening text to someone who NEVER asked me to word vomit all the information on them.
A year later, I think I have found a better way. It’s easier and takes less time so that I am not constantly tied to my phone. And it is SUCCESSFUL. It goes something like this.
After the prospect expresses even the smallest amount of interest in joining, I say – or send this (AND ONLY THIS!!):
“How would you like for me to add you to a private Facebook group where you can watch a five minute video and learn more?”
THAT. IS. ALL. I SAY.
I repeat, I do not say ANYTHING else.
More often than not, the answer is yes. And then I follow the steps below.
How to Use a Facebook Group for Recruiting in the Avon Leadership Program
The Genuine Gems and Team Envision have created a private Facebook group for you to use as a resource in your recruiting efforts. If you follow the steps above exactly, I am willing to bet you will have more luck converting people into your Avon team.
So the goal is – as soon as someone expresses interest – you ask them to join the group. If they ask a question – tell them you want them to watch the video first.
Then you FOLLOW UP. Here are some questions you can ask.
This recruiting group is a private group only for members of Team Envision led by Emily Stephens and her team and the Genuine Gems led by Jennifer Francis and her team. There are a number of resources available to create a similar group for your recruits.
You could record a video telling why you decided to join Avon and what Avon has done for you. You can use the Youtube Video linked below. Or you could use Avon sponsored videos such as the new power in numbers video.
Using Facebook Groups to Take the pressure off
The purpose of the Facebook group for recruiting is to take the pressure OFF of your prospect so she doesn’t feel like you’re shoving your business opportunity down her throat. It allows you to back up – and just be her friend – one that is asking her questions and solving a problem for her. Let your group do the work – let your group do the selling – you concentrate on being the friend.
Being a Successful Avon Leader
The Avon Leadership Program is a lucrative earnings opportunity with Avon. If you are looking for a job that is going to pay you based on your effort and give you the opportunity to live on your own terms, the Avon Leadership Program is for you.
While you have certain goals that you are trying to maintain, in order to be successful, it’s important to always be thinking about the goals of your downline team members and how their motivations can help you meet your own goals.
You can’t expect a casual shopper who just signed up for the membership discount to carry your team through leadership. But her sales CAN help boost your team – and early in leadership, I can guarantee you will be relying on her order – no matter what the size.
So your interactions with that downline team member are going to look different than your interactions with the team member who is looking to quit her job to stay home with her kiddos.
For the membership representative – you will need to motivate her more like you would a customer – make sure she knows about hot deals that are on sale and how she can save money.
For your selling representative – help her learn how to make more money.
Knowing the motivations of your team members and helping them get what they want will also eventually help you get what you want.
Avon Leadership Program – Breaking Down the Payment Plan
I have outlined the beginning of the Avon Leadership Program payment structure above. But, you may want to look ahead to see what you will need as you begin to progress through the Avon Leadership program. Knowledge is power – and half the battle is knowing what you need so you can develop a strategy on how to get there.
